MACOR® Machinable Glass Ceramic

MACOR® er et Mica-glas keramisk materiale, som er unikt idet det kan bearbejdes i brændt tilstand med konventionelle værktøj.

MACOR® is a Mica glass ceramic material that is unique in that it can be machined in the fired state with conventional tools.

The material is supplied in round or square bars and as sheets in standard dimensions.

Used for the production of special components in small series.

Color: White

Density: 2.5 g/cm3

Hardness: 48 Rockwell A / Vickers 400

General properties:

  • Heat resistant up to 1000 °C
  • Thermal and electrical insulating
  • Non-porous surface
  • Dimensional stability / vacuum-tight and can be machined to tight tolerances

Aluminiumoxid / Alumina Al2O3

Alumina is supplied with different degrees of purity (from 92% to 99.7% Al203). The material can also be stabilized with Zirconia to give it greater fracture and bending strength.
It is one of the most commercially used ceramic materials, as it is distinguished by its high mechanical strength and wear resistance, while being relatively inexpensive.

The hardness in the fired state means that items cannot be processed mechanically (only polished with diamond tools). In the unfired state, the material can be processed, but the necessary subsequent firing requires experience, including in terms of material shrinkage, for the process to be successful. Alumina is therefore mainly supplied as finished fired items in larger series.

Zirconia ZrO2

Zirconia is the type of technical ceramic that has the greatest mechanical toughness and strength at normal temperatures. The material is relatively easy to connect with metals, as it has approximately the same thermal expansion coefficient as these.

Supplied as finished products, square or round rods and can only be processed with diamond tools. Zirconia can be stabilized with Yttrium Oxide or Manganese Oxide.

  • Very wear-resistant
  • Very high breaking and bending strength
  • Very thermally insulating and shock-resistant
  • Chemical-resistant

Coal/Graphite

Carbon/Graphite is supplied in different qualities and also as a composite material (e.g. SiC Silicon Carbide). Depending on the manufacturing process, different thermal and mechanical properties are obtained.

The materials are supplied as finished products or as rods, plates or tubes.

Some types can be processed with conventional tools. Used, among other things, for plain bearings due to the low surface friction.

  • Thermal and electrically conductive
  • Chemical resistant
  • Lav oLow surface frictionverfladefriktion

Silicon carbide SiC

Silicon Carbide is an artificial mineral that has very strong covalent bonds. It is harder than Alumina and Silicon Nitride and has particularly high frictional wear resistance.rke.

The material is very heat resistant and has excellent chemical resistance.

Silicon nitride Si3N4

Silicon nitride is sintered at high temperature under oxygen-free conditions. It has the largest covalent bond due to the material’s excellent thermal properties.

Supplied as finished products, square or round bars and can only be machined with diamond tools.

Silicon nitride is available in different versions for different applications.

Boron nitride

Boron nitride is supplied in different grades (Grade A and grade ZSBN) with different mechanical properties.

The material is supplied as finished blanks, round bars and sheets and can be machined with conventional tools to tight tolerances.

Color: Off-white to gray.

General properties:
